During a very short visit to Ethiopia in August the BTBAB team – Shirley Cooper, Jenny McCurry, and Tina Falvey met with Ebenezer (Abe) our good friend and contact in Ethiopia. We journeyed to Shao village where Pastor Tegene lives and he is looking well and was happy to see us. He has a great heart and love for the village and its people and while talking to him you could hear the weight of the burden he carries for a village with so much need. He showed us the village school complex and within the grounds they had planted Mango and Avocado trees which when mature provide a good source of food and also a good cash crop. We discovered that the original piece of rented land was no longer available for the “Up from the Ground” project. The pump had also been installed into the school ground providing necessary water for the school grounds.

At the local school, we visited the classrooms which to us seemed in very poor condition with very few resources. They were very proud of the library which had very few books, but nonetheless they were excited with the little they had. It was lovely to meet with some of the village women and children, and I was excited to hear that a young lady with qualifications in agriculture was hoping to teach the kids in the coming year. My prayer is that we continue to connect with this village. I believe it was God who originally brought the team here in 2019 and that we can do so much more. God is not finished with our journey here. May God guide us and lead us in his ways.

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
