This summer in Liverpool has been an interesting time. There have been highs and there have been lows.

One high was volunteering for the MCYC youth camp (Merseyside Christian Youth Camps) for a second year. This year I worked with the 18 – 21 age group which is the age I prefer working with. This camp was so much easier as I had made connections with staff and campers from last year. And as this group were technically adults, they were given a more relaxed timetable and had some sessions which were not mandatory. However we saw them engaging more, coming to the optional devotional times in the morning and being more willing to engage with God so there were many wonderful moments. One particular moment was during worship when they started dancing and worshipping the Lord together as a group, not just a few individuals. There were also some spontaneous worship times that were not structured, where I just sat and watched with joy! It was a wonderful camp and I am hoping that this brings many more opportunities to connect with the Christian young adults in Merseyside.

On our return from MCYC on 7th August, we drove through Liverpool city centre completely oblivious that in 2 hours’ time there would be racial riots erupting in that area. Unfortunately due to these riots many of the refugee community are in fear and have become retraumatized from past situations in their home country. Many services to the refugee community have also closed their doors for fear of further violent attacks. Please pray that the violence ceases and the refugee community can feel safe again.
