In 2009, a BTBAB team were able to donate money to help build homes for 6 disadvantaged families in the Philippines within 6 different communities.
Although we didn’t realise it at the time, God had begun to birth the Overseas Community Transformation (OCT) concept when a BTBAB team donated money to an initiative, called the “Raise the Roof” appeal. The proect took 2 years to implement, and in the process a young man by the name of Ben (who had no formal education) was trained in how to build bamboo houses. This training gave him a professional career that would indefinitely provide a very good salary.
As these homes were being built, God was also laying the foundations for a fundamental principle of how BTBAB works to see community transformation; that of building the skill base of local people and giving them lasting employment opportunities.
