Emihle Makalima was identified as a potential candidate for ACI sponsorship at a local youth meeting by the BTBAB Mission team led by Shirley Cooper in October 2019.

At that time, Emihle was 18 years old, and lived with her uncle in Kuyasa (a sub section of Khayelitsha township).  Her mother passed away when she was 10 years old and her grandmother took care of her, however her grandmother also passed away in February 2019.  She is now living with her uncle in a 2-room house with 8 other people.  Her uncle works in a part job.

She became a Christian when she was 12 years old and regularly attended church with her grandmother. She served in the church as an usher.

She attended Trafalgar High School and was in Grade 11 with one year left when we first met her.  Her final exams start 25th October and she leaves school December 2021.

Her dream was to become a nurse, as she realised that South Africa has a shortage of health care workers and most people do not have proper health care.  She wanted to make a difference and give back to her community, by offering her services to the under privileged.

Unfortunately, Emihle did not achieve the results required to start her nurse training and switched courses to a local technical college to study computer programming.

BTBAB supported her for three years (2020 -2022) through her last years at high school and into college.  We continue to remember her in prayer.
