The Burundi team saw over 500 people in the medical clinics, ministered to over 250 kids through our kids’ ministry activities and saw 9 people receive Jesus into their hearts.
On one of the clinic days, Beathe, an 18 year old girl managed to get past the crowd. She was very quiet and blank whilst people tried to get her attention. One of our medical people asked her where her parents was (because she looked so malnourised and had the body of a 12 year old African girl). Beathe immediately burst into tears when she was asked the question. She would later tell us that she is one of five children and her parents had died of Aids… and she had been infected with HIV. The room went silent as Beathe told us the hopelessness of her situation (and no one in the room moved for 5 mins). On examination we found she was clinically blind (only seeing people at one metre away from her face). Because of the donation of a local optician store in the UK, Beathe can now see.
The team received over £1,800 in donations which was used to purchase sewing machines to enable women learn how to sew and towards helping the people of Burundi return to cultivating their land again. A team member was also involved in repairing broken doors and donated over £500 worth of tools kits that young people can be trained to use in fixing or assembling furniture.
