In November 2011 a team of 5 went to work in a trading town within The Amazon Jungle. They worked alongside the YWAM based ministry of a family who lived among the Indigenous tribes in The Amazon for 18 years.
The team also served at several junior schools and day care facilities for disadvantaged children and spoke in venues from Universities to centres where the indio tribes meet. The response to this was incredibly positive, particularly from the heads of these colleges. A Jesus who cares, not only about our spirits but also our mind, relationships and character was presented. The team also ministered in three local churches. One woman who could not conceive a child was particularly encouraged when one of the team had a word of knowledge to this effect and God met her at her point of need.
A series of craftwork activities saw four tribes come together in unity. We believe that seeds of reconciliation were planted in these these communities. The power of cross was at work not just in this way but in redeeming the positive aspects of the culture these indigenous people (Matt 13:52).
The team sent £5,435 for the ministry in The Amazon. In seeding into this vision through the Word, craftwork sessions, educational/vocational instruction, a taster of having a Christian Community Centre for indigenous people was experienced. The family they worked alongside have a vision for such a Centre, where people come together, develop their God given potential and prepare and adjust to urban life. £250 of the above amount was given towards a boat ministry to reach the river communities in Labrea.
